Drawing of my dirt pile
October 16, 2008
I was thinking today it’s quite strange to draw. It could be quite egotistical? The reason why I drew today was for fun and to get better at it. But then why get better at drawing, to try and show off? This drawing didn’t mean anything it’s just a study of some dirt. Is art pretty much just for show offs?. It is for a viewer most of the time and shown off in galleries.

I dunno…
I would say that its to get better at it so as to be able to say what you want to more succesfully no?
Same could be said for any dicipline.
As its what you enjoy and find stimulating, its only natural to want to get as good as you can at it. no?
Nod
I realised the main reason I did that drawing was I wanted people to like it and compliment me on it. It felt like the most pointless drawing I’d ever done. Totally self.. ish/indulgent? Other times you draw to explore things and to actually try and get to what you’re thinking about like you said. It was quite a lame exercise.
it could be egotistical if youre drawing for those reasons, but if youre drawing to say something it becomes generous, that youre giving your time to create something to make someone think about a certain topic, or question ideas. that depends on what youre saying though. if all youre saying is ‘im an egotistical twat’ then thats what you are. this isnt directed at you. youre not a twat
Maybe I am steph. I pretty much was with that but I do feel that it is still worth drawing, for good!
